Nick Zito is a two-time winner of the Kentucky Derby with Strike The Gold in 1991 and with Go For Gin in 1994. Among other notable top horses trained by Zito are Thirty Six Red, Louis Quatorze, Storm Song, Birdstone, Albert the Great, Unbridled’s Song and Bird Town.
Nick Zito boats over 1,500 wins, making him one of the top US trainers. His first big wins came in 1990 with Thirty Six Red, who won the Grade 1 Wood Memorial Stakes and earned a second position in that year’s Belmont Stakes. Horses trained by Zito went on to win the Wood Memorial Stakes again in 1999 and 2005. The 2008 Kentucky Derby was not his best performance at all, his horse Cool Coal Man only came in at 15 position.
Nick Zito won the 1996 Preakness Stakes and the 2004 Belmont Stakes, in which his Birdstone beat Smarty Jones. In 1996, Zito also won the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies. As a top trainer, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005.
